Au mois de janvier j’ai organisé la Camille Juban Kids Show en Guadeloupe. Ce fut un grand plaisir pour moi d’organiser une compet’ pour les jeunes en Guadeloupe, parce que je rêvais de moi même participer à une compet’ -18ans il y a de ça quelques années, et c’etait pas vraiment l’idéal en Guadeloupe. C’est comme ça que j’ai eu l’idée et que je me suis lancé, avec l’aide de la Freestyle school (Hans et Cyril) et de mes sponsors. Ces derniers m’ont tous donné des lots, et en y ajoutant une de mes planches et une de mes voiles, tout le monde sans exception a été gâté. Les conditions ont été justes assez suffisantes pour courir, et au final, on a eu de bons résultats. Pour le reste, l’organisation et le déroulement, tout c’est passé encore mieux que prévu. J’ai vu que tout le monde était content et ça m’a vraiment fait plaisir. Voir tous ces jeunes motivés et envoyer des belles manoeuvres m’a donner l’envie de réorganiser la même (en encore mieux!) l’année prochaine.

J’étais tout ému de les voir comme ça et heureux de pouvoir faire ça pour eux. =)

The mounth of january was a great mounth for me because i organized the “Camille Juban Kids Show” in Guadeloupe. I had this idea cause there were no competition for kids in Guadeloupe when I was young and that is something I was happy to do. I was like ok, i’ll organize one myself now with the help of the Freestyle school of some friends, and my sponsors. They all supported me and gave some little gifts for all the kids. It took me a bit of time to organize it well but at the end we had just enough ocnditions to do it and all the rest was going better that what i expeted. We could manage to have results, and to see all those kids so motivated made me so happy that i could do that for them. That gave me the power to think about organizing one even better for next year. On top of that, all the local medias were really supportive.

one week in japan

JAPAN !

Juste avant décembre, Quatro me propose de participer à un événement promotionnel au Japon, à Omaezaki. A peine trois jours en Guadeloupe et me voilà reparti pour un trip au Japon, excité et curieux de cet endroit que je ne connaissais pas du tout. Guidé par l’importateur Quatro super sympa, je découvre alors un petit bout de ce pays dans le froid, avec des conditions complexes. Heureusement, la communauté japonaise d’une gentillesse exceptionnelle a su me faire découvrir et apprécier ce pays merveilleux.

J’y suis resté qu’une semaine mais j’ai découvert une nouvelle culture, de la bonne bouffe et des gens géniaux… Ca fait de ce trip un de me meilleurs.

Right before decembre quatro suggested me to go to Japan for a promotinal event in Omaezaki. I had never been there so i was so excited to go. After a fifty hours trip from Guadeloupe I finally arived to Japan. The Quatro importer took good care of me, in this really cold weather, opposite from home. THe conditions were tricky but the Japaneese community made me so happy to come to visit this beautiful country. I stayed only one week but i discovered a new culture, food, people.. That made one of the best different trip i had.

AMERICAN DREAM

“AMERICAN CHAMPION”

Fin octobre, me voilà de nouveau à Maui pour la finale de l’AWT.
La pression se fait sentir, et je préfère ne pas naviguer jusqu’au premier heat pour donner tout ce que j’ai pendant cette finale. Il me faut faire une bonne place pour espérer finir premier du tour entier. Après la “Single élimination” où je finis troisième, j’attends patiemment la double elimination en surveillant de près Levi Siver, le plus grand danger pour ma place de 1er. Heureusement, je finis 4e de la Maui Makana Classic, ce qui me donne le nombre de point suffisant pour finir premier du tour. Je vous laisse imaginer ma joie après cette victoire qui me donne le titre de champion américain.

At the end of october, i’m in Maui for the AWT final.
I can feel the pressure and prefere to avoid sailing before the first heat to keep my best. I really need good results at this finale to be the first in the over all tour. After the single elimination, i’m third and wait for the double elimination. My biggest fear is about Levi Siver, the real danger for my first place. Fortunately, i finish fourth at the Maui Makana Classic, which give me enough points to win the tour. I let you guess my joy after this victory. I’m the American Champion !

summer trips, away from home!

from june to september guadeloupe it’s flat and no wind, the only way to stay in the water everyday it’s to packs all your stuff and go away for three month.

first, i went to visite my friends JB caste in the south ouest of france where it’s pretty good to surf on summer time.

from france i went to mexico with keith and the quatro, goya crew to abreojos witch is mors then 1200 km my longest drive ever… we hade some great condition but not epic.

and then we all went to san carlos for the 3° stop of the AWT :

MEXICO

it was my first time in san carlos and first time in mexico, driving was pretty long but we were at list 2 cars with the quatro team so it was ok.

when we arrived to san carlos it was suposed to be flat almost the all week with maybe a little swell in the and of the week.

we had a little bit of waves just to do some stand up.. normaly i don’t really do stand up but now i’m getting more in to it and i feel like i improve every session.

during the flat i also descover the montain bike, it’s sick! and baja it’s the perfect place to do montain bike, some time i was going twice a day.

the day before the end of the event the waves started picking up just a little bit with some logo hight set but it was really long bettwen the set’s.

the head juge matt pritchard discided to compet and i have to say that he made the good call because the pick of the swell was exaclty when we hade the 5 or 6 heat of pro.

during the semi final with graham, brawzinho and levi i had the best wave of my trip, almost mast hight for my 4,2 mutant wich is now definitely my favorite sails.

it was pretty light wind side off shore, that the kind of condition that i feel really good on.

i was scared not to pass in the semi final because all the boy’s were ripping but when i came of the water everyone told me ” good jod man your first of the heat” i was surpised but so stocked, i guess that last minute set saved me.

in the final i did my best and it was really close betwen levi and i but i think the experience of levi took it over.

i’m still really happy with this second place and that gave the motivation to wine in peru wich i’m on the way to go to train before the contest.

the trip and contest was another good expérience for my career.

PERU

This whole trip has been a really rich experience for me. I had never been to South America before and with the American tour I got to know Mexico and Peru.Straight after the San Carlos event in Mexico I decided to go train in Pacasmayo (Peru) for the next event of the AWT, so I arrived there and met Fabrice Beaux who had the same idea.It was really cool because we had great conditions and almost no one had arrived yet so it was a really relax atmosphere and that’s important for the concentration.I’m also super lucky because my father and my little brother just had enough money to come and it was important for us to be together there.They arrived one week before the contest and scored epic conditions but unfortunately at this time I got the Peruvian sickness and was out of service for a couple days.

After this we still had some session all together and that was perfect for us to get to know the wave.

Then everyone arrived and everything went so fast, we run the single elimination in the first days. It was conditions that I really like so I had so much fun and took the first place in the single.

But I was even more happy for my brother because he improved a lot during this trip and it was amazing to see him passing all his heat and in the end making the final with me.

That was a big moment for us, he was ripping and he totally deserved his 3^rd place.

After this day the conditions went down for a couple days but we were supposed to have a good swell for the last 2 days of the contest.

Everyone was pushing to make the double elimination and I didn’t wanted to say but I had lot of pressure, but on the last day they could make the whole double until like 6.45 pm and almost dark, I was ready anyway but right before my heat they stopped it because they couldn’t see the sails anymore and I even had a hard time seeing the wave coming trough.

Right after this we had the price giving and I took a bus to join the Don’t Let Go crew in Lobitos for our last trip together to finalize this movie project.

It was a successful trip because we scored sick conditions and I can’t wait to see the final results of DLG.

Next stop is going to be Hatteras on the east coast for the 5th event of the AWT and then finally back home after 3 months of traveling.

CAPE HATTERAS

sick trip in peru time to compet again…

wow what a suprise for me, i just check the AWT web site and i realize that i’m first in the ranking now.

This event has been great but unexpected… i arrived there in northfolk at the same time as morganx and sam and do the 3 hours driving south to arrive to the cap hatteras where the estats agency : outer beach realty gave us this sick house for the week, and i have to thanks the stokes family because they let us use one of there car, a pick up wich is really usfull to drive in the beach and see where is the best spot of the day.

So for the 3 first day’s that’s pretty much what we did, driving around trying to find the best spot but the condition were too bad.

and to make the time passe faster we did some tourisme like going up the light house and enjoy the wonderfull view, carting race, jacuzzi and little party..

on the last day the forcast were saying some little waves and some wind in the end of the afternoon.

At 1pm we were still surfing on glassy waves but when we came back from lunch at 2,30 wind starte to blow 10 to 15 knots but by the time everything and everybody got prepared the wind was more then 15 and consisten.

They diceded to do the pros because we hade just 6 heats to finish it..

So kevin, morgan, fabrice and I made it to the final and that’s pretty rare but they couldn’t unsharing between morgan, fabrice and I so they told us that we hade to do another final between us three and going big like for the moves..

So i knew i twas a heat were the first one who land a move was wining so i did couple jumps and look for the 360 wave but the move waves were really hard to find, until the last 5 minute i decided to go for it and try the goiter i almost didn’t pulled it but my wants to win was stronger then anything else at this moment..

Now i’m gonna traing physically and mentally to sails at my best under the pressure in maui..

Spring in maui

After my boat trip in february i came back at home in guadeloupe for one month.

i hade the chanse to sails a couple of times because home hasn’t been really windy for the last few years, and try some more sails that maui sails send me before my trip.

now i’m in maui since 2 weeks and the conditions have been great and consistent.

I have been shooting with maui sails a lot and i’m really happy about the new gear.

Winner of the Maui Makani classic:

Maui has always been the center of the windsurfing world, that’s why I have spent so much time all these years training there and doing sponsor photo shoots and it’s also where I contended in my first two real international wave events (Aloha classic) in 2004 and 2005.

The event stopped taking place after that, despite impressive performances from the new generation of wave riders.

It would be six years before American Windsurf Tour organizer Samantha Bittner had the courage to hold the Tour and make the final in Maui. The event drew big names from the older generation of windsurfers like Francisco Goya, Kai Katchadourian, and Josh Stone, to name just a few.

Conditions were by my side and I felt confident. It was a big moment for me and I’m really proud to have made windsurfing history as the first French rider to win in Hawaii.

Film project: Don’t Let Go

This movie project started around 1 year ago on an idea that Boujama Guilloul, Robby Swift and I developed with the talented rider Flo Young. Our aim is to show the real potential of all the guys who don’t have a chance to ride in World Cup caliber spots.

You’re gonna see big action in Hookipa (Hawaii), Morocco, Guadeloupe (Caribbean), and Chile.

February boat trip:

Besides my “mandatory” World Tour and American Tour,

I try to find the time to do what I enjoy most and what this career is all about for me. With friends, cameraman, photographer and riders we travel to places where no one has ever windsurfed before.

Our aim is to shoot a “road trip” but it’s mostly about living the adventure, discovering new cultures, new people, new landscapes and…new waves!

That’s why my crew from the windsurf competitions back when we were ten – aka Yann and Leysa, Max Houyvet, Jonas Marpot and Florians Daubos, sailed to Central America in February to explore some amazing islands whose exact locations have to stay secret until the mag articles come out.
